Our Story
Shortly after purchasing the property in 2011, a photographer knocked on our door to ask if she could use our barn and acreage as a photo backdrop. For thirteen years, we donated the use of our property to photographers.
As those years passed, our children grew into adults and two of the three flew the coop. Our son Dawson, however, stuck around to keep mom and dad young and busy. Though cognitively disabled, he still had many of the same goals as you and I - a big one was a job. Knowing it was impossible to fulfill all his dreams, we knew this one might have a chance, so we pursued it, feverishly. After several years of trying, we still hadn’t found the right fit.
As it turns out, he was not bored though, our property has plenty of chores to keep us all busy. One of Dawson’s chores is to help clean up the never-ending supply of sticks, branches, pinecones, and leaves that fall relentlessly from our beautiful trees.
As Dawson’s dream of a job remained strong, I began wondering if we could create some kind of job for him at home…? Experience has taught me the necessity of thinking outside the box, while simultaneously asking the LORD for wisdom, and so I did.
To our great delight, on a glorious fall day in 2024, it suddenly came to me as we were cleaning under some trees; we could create a little photo venue business! He was already helping with the work. It was perfect! I yelled over to him and asked what he thought of the idea. He jumped up, screamed with joy, and finished that day’s work in record time. And so became White Barn Acres.
Welcome to our home. We’re so glad you’re here!
